HOT YOGA at the Glasgow Yoga Centre - EVERY SUNDAY 12 - 1.30 pm

Hot Yoga [ like Bikram yoga] is a series of 26 postures conducted over 90 minutes in a heated room heated to 105°F (40.5°C). The Hot Yoga class starts with a breathing exercise to warm-up, then goes through 24 asanas (or postures) finishing with a toxin-eliminating breathing posture. The sequence of postures has been programmed to systematically work through each muscle group throughout the entire body with each posture in the series warming and preparing the body for the next posture.
People of all levels, ages and body types usually practice Hot Yoga together with a teacher acting as a guide, taking the class through the ninety-minute series.

Some of the asanas performed in Hot Yoga are maintained while lying on the floor, others while standing. The postures use all muscle groups and each one has specific benefits besides just building muscle including, increasing concentration, centering the nervous system, balancing blood sugar levels, reducing depression and relieving arthritis and rheumatism.
The warm temperature not only promotes flexibility, it also minimizes lactic acid build up (associated with the burning pain felt in your muscles after an intense exercise), which means you can practice longer without straining.
The poses work synergistically and to return the body to a balanced state. The yoga assists to build energy, stamina and flexibility. The postures have a torniquet effect, stretching, squeezing and massaging the internal organs, flushing out the cardiovascular system and stimulating the endocrine and nervous systems. The well-maintained body is self-regulating and self-adjusting.
In Hot Yoga the warm room:
- allows for greater flexibility,
- minimises muscle strain,
- reduces the chance of injury,
- promotes greater cleansing of the body, and
- helps build stamina and endurance.
No special equipment or props are required. Please wear loose fitting clothes suitable for an excersise workout in a hot room.

As we age, our muscles tend to stiffen, creating more pressure on the joints. Regular stretching prevents this gradual stiffening and joint deterioration, which is why hot yoga has such a rejuvenating effect. Through a regular workout, we liberate a vast amount of energy that we can use in daily life. We look, move and feel younger.
Whether your goal is to lose weight, learn to relax, aid in the healing of injuries or illness, strengthen, stretch or tone your body, or simply to achieve overall well-being, Hot Yoga is suited to all levels of health and fitness.
